In the presence of greatness

Yes, I’m still taking a break from my blog but I just had to make this quick post.  Last night my family and I saw Bill Cosby perform here at that San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo.  It was the first time I’ve ever seen him perform live and it was nothing less than spectacular.  Just before Mr. Cosby stepped onto the stage, my father pointed to the little folding chair in the center and said something like, “Look at that.  A single chair.  That’s all he needs to put on his show.  No walls of amplifiers, lasers and smoke bombs.  Just himself and a chair.” I think that observation really framed the whole show for me.  My father was right.  At 68 years old and the target of some ugly allegations, Mr. Cosby stepped up onto the stage and quickly demonstrated why he is a legend.  No dirty words.  No degrading jokes.  And not a trace of concern for any personal troubles.  Just a man and a chair.  That may not sound like much, but when that man is Bill Cosby, it’s a recipe for greatness.
