What Dick Clark was saying last night

Just spent a few minutes on Technorati reading what others are saying about Dick Clark’s return to television.  I was stunned to see so many harsh words about it.

I, for one, was truly inspired watching Mr. Clark “do his thing” on New Year’s Eve.  I wonder if people realize how easy it would have been for him to just retire and count his millions.  Or how safe it would have been for him to stay out of the limelight and protect himself from public scrutiny.  But Dick Clark doesn’t appear to be one to take the safe or easy road, even after suffering a debilitating stroke.  For that alone, I am inspired.

And for those who complained they couldn’t understand what he was saying, let me give you my translation:

“No matter what happens to you in life, you are only defeated when you choose to give up.”
