Some of my other projects
Some folks are asking why I’m bashing The Secret and LOA instead of doing something constructive with my life.
Let me see if I can shed some light on this.
First off, I do consider my “bashing” to be constructive. If it helps people wake up to the other side of these ideas, then *that* is constructive. And from the feedback I’m getting, it seems to be working.
Second, with few exceptions, this “bashing” isn’t spilling over into my personal life. In fact, in addition to my full-time day job, I am working on three separate “positive” projects right now:
I am updating and expanding my No-Nonsense Guide to Enlightenment which will soon be published under a new title by Kallisti Publishing.
I am close to finishing Spontaneous Persuasion: Getting What You Want by Simply Being Who You Are. As I’ve said before, I have a love/hate relationship with the idea of persuasion. This book is my attempt to resolve the conflict I see between being persuasive and being authentic.
And finally, I am researching my next book which will be called The Art of As If: The Power and Perils of Make-Believe. This book is inspired by two of my all-time favorite books. The True Believer by Eric Hoffer and The Philosophy of As If by Hans Vaihinger. This is a daunting task as I am intimidated as hell by the genius of these two men. I am also haunted by their ideas and literally wake up at night thinking about their implications. I’m afraid if I don’t write it, their ideas won’t be the only thing haunting me.
Unlike some writers who brag about “writing books without even writing them,” (I still don’t understand the pride in this), I am a perfectionist and a slow-poke. I only research and write about ideas I am deeply passionate about. And to make matters worse, I only research and write about them *while* I’m passionate about them. If I lose my enthusiasm for a project, I put it aside and work on something else. I am not trying to create a catalog of books; I am trying to create a few quality ones.
I approach my blog the same way. If I don’t feel passionate about blogging, I don’t. If I do blog about something, you can trust I’m passionate about it. End of story.
So see, I am doing something constructive with my life. And hopefully some of you think I’m also doing something constructive with my blog.

Well stated, Blair. I’ve gotten a lot of those same criticisms. As it happens, Ron and I are up to our ears in book projects right now ourselves, and we have lots of other things going on too. My own blog is just one thing in my life (though I probably do spend too much time on it sometimes). Despite the fact that it is a humor blog—and it exists because there are so many things that just beg to be made fun of—there is, it could be argued, a serious message behind my satire. And I too feel passionate about my blog, or I wouldn’t blog (I have the same attention issues you do).
I wish you the best of luck on your book projects. Even if you ultimately end up with a list that’s short enough to mention here, or anywhere else, it sounds as if they will all be quality books. And I also think you’re doing a constructive thing with this blog.

Yes, I do think you’re doing something contructive with your blog. And the books you’re writing sound like meaningful contributions to society. You go!

Accepting one wrong idea can ruin your life. I can’t see how bashing “the secret” is anything but constructive.
