I take it back
This morning my wife and I saw a picture of the prostitute involved in the downfall of New York Governor Elliot Spitzer.
I’m ashamed to admit this, but my initial reaction was, “Wow. At least he’s not a complete idiot.”
Then my wife pointed out that the picture wasn’t of the prostitute but of Spitzer’s wife.
“Well then, I take it back. He is a complete idiot.”

Blair,
I couldn’t agree more.
It is said that absolute power corrupts absolutely. This is proof that the corruption goes beyond the job, but permeates the intellectual and emotional discernment capabilities of the individual.
Mrs. Spitzer (whom I suspect will soon be the “former” Mrs. Spitzer) is a very attractive woman and, from what I’m told, very intelligent in her own right. However, men like Spitzer have a “silver toungue” and a line of B.S. a mile long.
In retrospect, she probably knew something was amiss, but couldn’t quite place her finger on it. Now she has tangible proof that he’s a scumbag. I feel sorry for his kids.

I admire the guy, Blair. Look at the record:
1. He upholds the economy in clearly nervous times.
2. He supports a home-land based business, when, under NAFTA convention, he could have had a Mexican hooker for $20.
3. He, indeed, trickles down the wealth. Ronald Reagan never imagined…
4. He practices cooperative, inter-state politics. Does anybody wonder why he had to go to the Nation’s capitol to get a $4000 hooker?
5. And he has class too. None of this ‘screwing around the office.’
Give this man a performance bonus… and a better bank.

Harsh, man. It was a very bad lapse of judgment to be sure. But he made a career out of pissing off some very powerful people, first as US Attorney, then as the Guv. It was only a matter of time before someone’s research paid off and they found his Achilles heel so they could out him. While I do not think this excuses his bad judgement, my paranoid alternate personality pointed out to me (we argue politics all the time) that this very expensive prostitute has probably had other powerful clients before and since Mr Spitzer. And her professional network no doubt includes of many other expensive “consultants” that have equally important clients.
So how come the headlines are only about Mr Spitzer’s indiscretion? I suppose there could be one or two other casualties, but you would have to consider them to be collateral damage - at least that’s what my suspicious alter-ego is saying.

Ahh, hahaha! At least he observed the “100 Mile Rule”.
Crooked Wisdom, glad I found ya.
Keep up the good work!

Two things: One, I agree regarding Spitzer’s wife. Usually when these things break and I get a look at the politico’s wife I can’t blame them. But she is a good looking woman.
Two, and this is regarding Robo’s post, there are important people and then there are IMPORTANT people. You ever wonder how when these things break, especially in Hollywood or D.C. how the “little black book” never sees the light of day? Notice how the people who do get called out aren’t THAT important or they were $#@&#xin;g with the wrong people. Now the Gov of NY is important. But from what I understand, he was stepping on alot of toes, from wall street to the state legislator. Somebody was out to get him...and they did. Because you can’t make me believe for one second he was the only Big Boss they caught on tape, not in a high class operation like this.

Robo,
Harsh you say? Damn right!I’ll bet he was a husband BEFORE he was governor. And the line I spoke, “to love, honor and cherish” means a great deal to me.
It obviously doesn’t resonate as deeply to certain “men of power.” It is inexcusable, irresponsible and loathesome behavior and to attempt to justify or paint it in any other light is reprehensible.
A man’s first responsibility is to his family. It is his greatest calling. Any male can father a child but it takes a man to be a father...and husband. The man who will sh&t;on his wife and kids in this manner will do the same, or worse, to his constituency because they are way down the Totem Pole.
I applaud him for being stand-up enough to resign, but that’s about it.

Poor guy, at least he had a nice looking hooker. It is unfortunate that he was such an ass to people with massive money. Clinton has always been my hero because he gets a bj in the white house, lies to the world, gets caught, apologizes and moves on. It is a bad sign when the floor of the NYSE erupts into cheer when they heard that Spitzer had been busted. bad, bad, bad position to be in.

Who cares what his wife looks like, maybe she was screwing around on him as well? His daughters look like they are going to be old enough to have sex soon, and gosh it’s all just a big secret. Everyone having sex, but don’t want anyone to know about it. Stupid, stupid, stupid. America sex bad. Just imagine the things Kristen would do that Spitzers wife would never do for him. Their you have it.

Whether you like Spitzer or not for whatever reasons… bottomline is the public is upset for the wrong reasons, as usual.
Forget the whole prostitute thing, that’s between him and his family. Spare me the lurid details. It’s fodder for comedians and late night talk shows.
Yes, if any public funds and resources were involved, there should be an accounting. What entertainment Spitzer buys with his money is his business.
I think what most people miss and should be more concerned with, is the government’s fishing expeditions into everyones private financial dealings. Every time you do anything with a $10,000 chunk of your money, you are automatically targeted for a possible criminal investigation by a host of government agencies. (Soon that’s what it will cost to fill up your SUV.)
The media is again feeding us cake while the real issues go unnoticed.
