Not that it is any of your business
After reading my work people often try to “figure” me out.
They write and ask, am if I religious or am I an atheist? Am I conservative or liberal? Am I really a jerk or am I just pretending?
I’ve gotten good at evading questions like this. But after my recent post about The Secret more people are asking them so I figured I better do something.
And while I won’t answer specific questions I will share a few of my beliefs and let people draw their own conclusions.
So for better or for worse, here you go:
I believe most of us are walking around with a tremendous amount of untapped potential and I want to learn how to tap it.
I believe that nonsense can be powerful, beneficial and endlessly fascinating - as long as we recognize it as nonsense. The trouble begins when we mistake it for Truth.
I believe - and I’m serious when I say this - that most people take themselves way too seriously.
I believe we should only trust the advice of people who have become successful doing things other than selling success materials.
I believe we inadvertently hurt others more often than we realize and fail to apologize as often as we should.
I believe that the type of people who divide people into different types of people should stop it.
I believe that claiming one has good intentions does not make one immune from criticism. And offering criticism does not mean one does not have good intentions.
I believe we should strive to see the world clearly, speak our truths passionately and laugh at ourselves frequently.
I believe that other than my wife and daughter, Halle Berry is the most beautiful woman alive.
And finally, I believe that in the end it doesn’t matter what we believe. It only matters what we do.
Of course, this is only a partial list and could change at any time. Except for the part about Halle Berry. I’m flexible but I’m not blind.

I believe undertanding what others believe, in relation to what I believe, is more important in the world today than understanding what I believe.
When I understand YOU as a person, as opposed to an object, most of my beliefs don’t really matter.

The way I see it is, he or she who dies with the least beliefs wins. Why filter the world through tiny little belief systems?
