I should point out that spin isn’t something that only occurs between people, but within people.
When we believe that the way we have life construed is “the” truth, we become slaves to this point of view. We don’t just acknowledge it and let it be, it colors and shades the way we see everything before us and behind us.
If we believe that something about our past was truly horrible - and who can’t make a case for that - then we’re stuck with a horrible past.
Unless…
We realize and acknowledge that our current “story” about the way things are/were is only part of the story. If we can only stop defending our views of long enough to take a breath, life might offer us new evidence which may cast things in a whole new light.
Consider this quote by Collette, “What a wonderful life I’ve had! I only wish I’d realized it sooner.”
Imagine your entire story about your past being able to change like that. Not because the “facts” changed or because you “lied” to yourself, but because you changed and started telling the truth about how little you know for sure.
Is this kind of transformation possible? I believe it is. I only wish I’d believed it sooner.
